The fire had severely affected the vessel’s stability and soon after it was extinguished; it sank in about seven meters of water. The resulting spill was estimated at between 2 and 3 tons of fuel and the vessel leaked fuel for a further three days.
Clean Globe Gulf, the largest oil spill response provider in the region, was activated on behalf the vessel owner to a level of Tier I. The spill teams immediately set up oil containment booms around the site to contain the leaking fuel and to further protect the Marina and surrounding sensitive areas.
Through out the spill response operation, Clean Globe was able to recover about 1/3 of the spill with remaining being lost through evaporation and natural dispersion.
